Kaliyugans, the fortunate ones

Age of Kaliyuga is characterized by the pain that causes out of conflict of interests between all relationships, be it parents-children, brother-brother, husband-wife, teacher-student, employer-employees, friend-friend, administrators-common people. It is also characterized by attitudes of running behind pleasures forgetting the real purpose of human birth, living according to one’s own will, ignoring the dictates of religious scriptures, lack of respect for elders and teachers. In fact living according one’s own will without study of religious scriptures is the major reason for conflicts.

However, it is also the age which is conducive to the liberation (moksha), a final goal out of four important goals prescribed for human birth namely dharma (understanding the importance of human birth, the roles to be played in that birth and the expectations of those roles, essentially understanding eternal code of conduct), artha (earning remuneration by offering services to the society while adhering to eternal code of conduct, using that remuneration and the gathered influence for maintaining and raising family and helping society for maintaining harmony), kama (strive to be content and help others to be content, purify one’s own desires and convert them into a desire for moksha i.e. getting rid of moha) and finally moksha (getting liberated from desire itself which causes one to be entangled in never ending cycle of birth and death).

Once few people approached Sage Vyasa to understand from him the characteristics and importance of kaliyuga. Anticipating their question, Sage Vyasa said “How fortunate are those who will be born in Kaliyuga, as for them it will be very easy to get liberated by mere chanting the name of God.”

For every yuga a specific method has been prescribed for liberation. In kritayuga (also known as satyayuga) method for liberation was dhyan (meditation). In tretayuga it was yaag and yadnya (offerings to the sacrificial fire). In dwaparyuga it was archana (performing puja). In kaliyuga the prescribed method for liberation is simpler than all other previous methods and that is chanting name of God or Guru and singing His glories.

Though the degree of difficulty of the methods of liberation reduces as yugas pass by, the quality of result of those methods remains same. To put it in other way the quality of the result depends on the quality of desire. To get liberated two things are necessary. First, one should understand what is meant by liberation and its importance and second, one should have a desire to get liberated. Devoid of these two things one is at risk of being dragged by delusive forces of kaliyuga.

To understand the liberation and then to develop the desire for liberation and then to actually getting liberated, the best way is to wholeheartedly surrender to Sai and to engage into reading his stories and chanting his name.

Once when His devotees assembled in front of Him, Saibaba explained them how he draws His devotees out of clutches of Kaliyuga.

- अध्याय १७ - श्री साईसत्चरीत

First of all wishing a very Happy and Prosperous New Year to all. May this and every new year bring you all most auspicious gains.

A new year begins with new hopes, new dreams, and new resolutions. Every year we make resolution. Why do we make resolution? Everybody has a desire to become healthy, to be free of worries, to be happy all the time. Is it not? Every year we learn something new, either from our previous successes-failures, through friends or through some book and then pick the idea and make a resolution. That’s the way it should be. One has to have some resolution, some goal. The goals and resolutions give direction to the efforts. How we progress depends on how much information we have to chalk out our plan for success. The more reliable and proven information the more quick we get the results. They say that the path shown by Saints through their stories is the quickest way to fulfill all desires – health, wealth, freedom from worries, and never ending happiness and fulfillment of all duties in life.

Shri Saisatcharit, a book written by Shri Govind Raghunath Dabholkar alias“Hemadpant” is the source of all information needed to fulfill every goal of life. Men and women of all ages can find answers to their questions.

Reading of Sai Satcharit can be done individually or with group. For welfare of all it should be read along with wife (कलत्र),children and friends (सपुत्र-मित्र). परिसतां अति हळुवारचित्तें | शांतते येते शांतता – while reading stories of Saibaba one should keep away all other thoughts and slowly focus on the stories. This focus alone brings the peace to the mind. या कथानि:स्यंदनिर्झरें |कर्माकर्मलवण विरे |श्रवणद्वारें नयनीं शिरे | रूप साजिरें साईंचें ||. By slowly focusing and attentively listening to this continuous flow of Baba’s stories, the beautiful form of Sai gets fixed in the mind. चरित्रश्रवणें पातकां ह्रास | चरित्रश्रवणें काळावरी कास| चरित्रश्रवणें परमोल्हास |श्रोते निरायास पावती || - By listening to these stories all sins get destroyed and the reader and listener experience the bliss (supreme happiness) without much efforts. श्रवणें शुद्ध अंत:करण | श्रवणें चुकेल जन्ममरण | श्रवणें श्रोतयां ब्रह्मपण | केवळ ब्रह्मार्पणकर्मानें ||- By listening, the mind gets purified which results in escape from the cycle of birth and death. When the mind thus gets purified every action becomes an offering to Brahma and hence one achieves highest position that can be achieved in human birth i.e. Brahmapan (oneness with Brahma). ऐसा हा साईसेवाकाम | सेवकां सदा करी निष्काम |निजभक्तां श्रीसाईराम | देईल आराम सर्वदा || - In fact reading and listening to the stories of Saibaba in itself is a great service to Saibaba which frees the mind of all desires and thus one achieves peace of mind. भागश: या ग्रंथाचें वाचन | अथवा श्रवण आणि परिशीलन | मनन आणि निदिध्यासन | करा अनुदिन श्रोत्रे हो ||- Read and listen to these stories part by part. After reading a part one should meditate upon them. "आनंदो ब्रह्मेति व्यजानात" |हे तरी तैत्तिरीय श्रुती विख्यात | तेंच ते बाबा अनुवादत |श्रुतिनिर्णीत भक्तांते || "फिकीर न करावी यत्किंचित | सदा असावे आनंदभरित |चिंता न करावी आमरणांत" | उपदेश नित्य बाबांचा ||- Baba advices same what shrutis and smrutis advice – fix the mind on Baba and then forget about all worries and be happy all the time.
